Postlip Hall Beer Festival Friday 18th July 2014

Dear All,

The Stroud RE Group, in conjunction with CAMRA Gloucester Branch, are pleased to present our annual Friday night trip to the above well established and popular beer festival at Postlip Hall. In fact, believe it or not, we have now been running a vehicle to this event in one form or another since 1989, so this is our 25th anniversary trip! For further details of the event, go to

Transport will be by heritage Bristol VR double decker bus EWS 748W (5540) and the following pick up points will be serviced;-

STROUD Lightpill Bus Stop depart 1810 / return 0115

Any other stops en-route can be accommodated and on the return journey there will be additional set downs in Gloucester at both The Avenue, Bristol Road (0030) and Tesco’s Quedgeley (0035).

We should arrive at the entrance driveway to Postlip Hall at around 1945, later leaving at 2330, giving well over three hours for you to enjoy what is on offer.

Remember that it is a ¼ mile walk from the main road where the bus sets down to the entrance itself, down a pot hole riddled lane, so sturdy footwear is recommended, and for anyone who has difficulty walking please let me know when booking and I will arrange with CAMRA for a lift down the driveway for you (genuine cases only please!!!!!).

The cost of this trip will be £18 a head, to include transport and full entry to the festival, as well as a detailed programme and commemorative glass. As is usual, once a firm commitment is made, any no shows on the evening will still be expected to cough up at a later date! Also remember that if you are a current CAMRA member, don’t forget to bring your membership card along to enjoy a free pint!

If you are interested in this trip, simply email me with how many seats you want and where you will be joining the bus. Also, please forward this email to anyone that I may have forgotten to include!

Many thanks for your continued support and I look forward to seeing some of you on the evening.

Kindest regards,

Chris Brooks (Stroud RE Group).

PS. Believe it or not, I have still not moved house, but it is now actually looking like it may take place before the end of the month. Therefore, please do not worry if I do not confirm your seats by email straight away, as I may be without an internet connection for a few days.

PPS. We still have a few seats left on the trip to Pauntley Beer Festival on Saturday 7th June. Just let me know if you now require any seats or want to increase your current booking.

May Update

Hello everyone

We are well and truly into May now, so I thought it was time to let you have a quick update and tell you about some events we have planned.

1. Presentation to the County Cider Pub of the Year takes place next Saturday, 17th May. A minibus has been arranged by the County to take those interested in this event, down to the Railway Inn at Newnham on Severn, plus a few stops in the Forest area en route. Pick up time will be 11.20, but I am still negotiating the pick up point, but it could be near the Pelican. As we don’t have another trip out booked this month, this is a good opportunity to visit some differrent pubs, and certainly one for the cider fans. The cost will be £10 per head, but if we can get enough people, we may be able to drop the cost just a little.
If you would like to come along on this trip, which will include some of the Cirencester members, please let me know by Tuesday evening, as I have to confirm numbers. Email will be easiest but I am happy for phone calls – 07908699809 or 01452551400 where you will probably have to leave a message.

2. On Wednesday evening, 14th May we have our social meeting in the City, and we start at 8.00 pm at the Cafe Rene. After a short meeting we will head off to explore some other pubs in the area.

3. Monday 19th May is our Business meeting, whilst this is normally for the committee to meet, it is open for anyone to attend. 8.00 pm at the Pelican.

As we have a meeting on Wednesday, we can go through the news and updates then, and I will do a further email to update you all.

Please remember if you decide you do not want to receive the emails, then please let me know, but thank you to those who are happy to continue to do so.

Finally, May is Mild Month in the Camra campaign year. We know that both the Pelican and the Fountain are featuring Milds this month, but if you know of another pub please let me know, as we like to recognise pubs who support this event.

Best wishes
